Social Media Marketing: Why You Should Use Meta Tags In Your Business Strategy

Meta tags are one of the most important pieces of information on your website. They allow you to provide essential details about what your website is about, and help users find it when they're searching for something specific. As social media becomes more popular, many businesses are using meta tags in their social networking profiles to attract new followers and customers. If you want to learn how meta tags can be used as part of a successful marketing strategy, then keep reading!

1. What are meta tags

Meta tags are the meta keywords and meta descriptions that appear below your website's title. They're displayed in search engine results, giving users valuable information about what your site is all about without even clicking through to it (see image).

Also known as metadata , they were introduced way back when internet search engines first became popular to help rank websites in their system. For example, if you type in 'orange' into Google, one of the top results will be a link to Amazon for customers looking for oranges . This is because Amazon has included relevant key terms like 'oranges', 'fruit', etc., within its meta tag keywords so that it shows up when people look for these things using an online search engine.

2. How meta tags work

Meta tags work by offering a brief description of what your website is about, or who it's targeting. They're usually just a few words long and appear below the title of your page in search engine results.

For example, if you have an ecommerce store selling children's clothing , then you might choose to include meta keywords such as 'kids clothes', 'baby clothes' etc., so that people searching for these things find your site when they type them into Google . The same applies to meta descriptions – this is the small paragraph underneath each link which gives readers more information before clicking through to another website (see image). It should be short but sweet - ideally 150-160 characters max!

3. Meta tags on social networks

Websites aren't the only place where you'll find meta tags. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter use them too, so it's important to include relevant keywords and descriptions in your profile(s) on these networks as well if you want to attract new customers or followers .

For example, let's say that I run a business selling running shoes online (for this blog post we've made up a company called 'Runner Shoes'). To make my social media profiles stand out when people search for things related to running/sports, I might add some of my website's key terms into their respective meta tags such as:

- Meta keywords : [running shoes], [online sports store]

- Meta description: A leading retailer in sports clothing and equipment, including running shoes.

4. Attracting customers to social networks through meta tags

Meta tags are a great way to attract new customers or followers on social networks. Remember, the more people that see your business when they search for things related to what you're selling, the greater your chances of making sales!

For example, let's say I want my company 'Runner Shoes' to appear in Facebook's newsfeeds whenever someone searches for sports shoes . To do this, I need to include relevant keywords within Runner Shoes' official page (here) so it shows up in Google News Feed - something which is very easy and stress-free if you have an SEO plugin installed.

5. Why You Should Use Meta Tags In Your Business Strategy

Putting meta tags to use as part of your marketing strategy can be a great way to drive more traffic and sales . Remember, the more people that see you when they're searching for things related to what you sell or offer online , the greater your chances are of making a sale.

Meta keywords and descriptions should only consist of relevant key terms – don't overdo it! If possible, try including some long-tail keyword phrases too (see an example here) - these tend to have less searches but convert better than broad keywords because they're catered towards specific niches/interests. Also remember that search engines keep updating their algorithms from time to time so it's worth doing regular research into any changes which could affect how well your site ranks.

As with any online marketing strategy, it's important to test things out and see what works best for you . A little bit of trial-and-error goes a long way so don't be afraid to tweak your meta tags until they're performing!
